This week we say good bye to Rico our flying second guitarist and welcome Dec Mc Kenna into the clan. He'll be adding new sounds to the mix on kbd/synth. Watch out for him at the band's next gig on June 22nd (Up All Night @ The Miller, London Bridge..details to follow soon).

BAND SEEKING REHEARSAL SPACE

At the end of 2005 we lost our long standing rehearsal space courtesy of new non music loving management. So, in between hiring studio/rehearsal rooms in various complexes across S.E London, we’re desperately looking for a regular place. A reasonably priced or FREE sound proofed (ideally) room would be great..if anyone has info re: the above - pls email hi@ryez.co.uk

If each of U bring a friend to each gig it won’t be long before we have a small army

Happy New Year
& all that Jazzamatazz!!£$%^$(**)£"!!!!!!!... *

Well I admit it has been a while and the apologies are more profuse than the the stars u'll see in the sky on a clear summers night ..but you have all been in my thoughts. Like u to know that I have not been slacking..on the contrary..a common case of two many fingers in too many pies.. but while some were minor distractions I must confess others were rather tasty..eg.I've been making 'now u see me, may be u won't' appearances in a few films including Charlie & the Choc Factory & the De Vinci Code (film Xtra) ... of course I can't act to save my life but they don't know that...yet...

In between - Been Writing new songs which'll be added to the Ryez set in the forthcoming year, working closely with the Ryez squad to create a fuller live sound.for the songs u've all come to love.. a little more groove & alot more edgily driven guitar than previously heard live..

Also..dropped the capital 'Z' as too many people have mistaken RyeZ for a close relative of the Jay Z collective..) .. and now ..the ball is rolling and beginning to build momemtum...

Expect to see changes to the website over the next few months..incite into the Ryez musicians..new snaps..mp3s..

If you wondered why there’s been little news on the gigging front it’s because I - RyeZ have been back in the studio writing. This, in addition to recruiting. Every famous band‘s been thru it,…Red Hot Chilis, The Beatles, Jamiroquai… changing of the trrops until they find the right combination, the right chemistry.

Having constantly spoken for months about my wanting to learn to play an instrument and no doubt worn down by my constant wingeing, as a post Valentines (the day of my birth) & house warming gesture , one of my friends made me a surprise gift of a geetar…bless ‘em.

And so…I’ve been strummin’ me little heart out in an attempt to create new toons from the very depths of my rocky soul.

RyeZ & South London Artists raise money
for Children of Tsunami
Sun 30th Jan!

Hi Everyone,

We are very happy to say that the fundraising event was a resounding success.
The great news...is that the final total raised was £2847.56...

On the day, the 12 live acts blended superbly to offer a highly entertaining & eclectic programme of music which catered for all present. Every artist rose to the occasion contributing to a great live show. Several times throughout the floor was heaving with the audience (children included) and mingling artists on their feet.
The music and Art auction complimented each other so well. There was high drama during the latter where individual works of art were sold for over £350 and where the burning of two of David Mach's world famous 'match heads' prior to their auction, dare I say it.. really set the room alight..(sorry..couldn't resist)..

ThanX once again to all of you who donated - for your time, talent, skills, expertise, your positive energy, your goodwill , your dosh ..

We've begun to receive photos from friends and others who were present and are asking anyone else who may have photos or video footage to send them to us. We'll be placing them on the website, creating a photo gallery of snaps taken throughout the day.
We've been sent an article from Save the Children UK which highlights what they've been doing with the donations received so far and what they're planning to do with future donations..this will also be placed on the website for future reference.
Please feel free to drop on to the website www.ryez.co.uk/tsunami.html from time to time for our updates.. outta sight shouldn't mean outta mind..
On behalf of all involved and for those soon to receive the benefits of your generosity, once again we'd like to say ThanK YOu to all who attended and contributed towards making the event a sucessful, enjoyable & memorable day.
Feel proud of what you've helped achieve...
RyeZ & Dom Pizzinat

There can be few who have not been touched by the recent events in S.E Asia..some of you may know that myself and dom my drummer had toured and performed throughout S.E Asia for 17months between 1997 -1998, including some of the places which had been hit by the Tsunami. Like many of you we strongly felt the need to do something to help … and so...we’ve set ourselves a task and hope that you will come out in support…pls read on..

South London Artists rally to raise money for Children of Tsunami - Sun 30th Jan - Forest Hill!

Singer/songwriter RyeZ (Val Kelly), Dominique Pizzinat (Freespirit Entertainment) and local friends/volunteers from across S.E London, are organising a major fund raising event for the surviving children of the Tsunami. A full live music programme is scheduled from 1-8pm. It will feature 12 local & internationally acclaimed artists/acts spanning a diversity of genres from world music, Jazz, N. African Rai dance music, jazz-Flamenco fusion to unsigned pop/rock & acoustic acts. All of whom will perform to a donating public.

Full 3K PA, Engineering, Lighting/ DJ & Compere will be provided by two Sound, Lighting & Event management companies - local (Forest Hill) company '10 out of 10' (currently engineering & providing PA & lights etc for Nitin Sawney on tour) & Surrey based Yes Events ( providers of stage,PA & lighting for BBC radio roadshows, high profile celebrity bashes country wide etc).

In addition to the musical extravaganza, an Art Auction will take place in which works of art donated by several celebrated S.E London based contemporary artists (including World reknown Scottish artist David Mach) will be sold. 'Mickey Pearce' (Pat Murray) of Only Fools & Horses' fame will be the auctioneer.

The aim - is to raise as much money as possible for as many children as possible.
'Ten people donating £20 each will provide food, clothing and shelter for one child for one year. We hope to raise enough to offer this to 50.

Entry will be £5 on the door.

A very affordable set Thai menu will be available, 10% of which will be donated to the charity.

Just like to send big ThanXX to all who ventured into the West End on the 27th July to support us at Sound. An amazing 21 of you came for what was officially only our second live gig, and our first with our evolving set up of guitar, bass and vox. You all made it a great night. We sold a few Cd's, picked up a few more fans along the way and rumour has it everyone had a thoroughly good social (especially the beer & wine tasting club)... If we carry on like that friends in a few gigs time we'll be filling Shepherds Bush Empire... now there's a challenging thought...
Hope to see your smiling faces next week.. .

Welcome!

It’s great to be back….well I (which is soon to be a fully fledged ‘we’) have not really been away just slowly metamorphosing since the split of my former band ‘10 Foot Tall’ in early 2002.

2002-2003 was spent writing new material, fine tuning and honing sound, image and direction. ‘It’s Only Personal’ is my new labour of love. 7 tracks, recorded at the studio of Italian producer/arranger and all round talented individual Roberto Meola. A similar vibe ~ soulful pop tinged with a rocky edge ~ but a slightly more evolved and fuller sound …a modern day Tina meets a female Bowie with a Grace meets Jaggeresk stage presence.. so t’is said…well u decide for yourself and let me know what it sounds like to you..

Hope u like the new website..…here you can listen to the short samples of the end result…see where RyeZ has been and get a little incite into where RyeZ is heading...

Smooze around the photo gallery..which I must say are pretty dapper.. visit the guest book, read the comments left by others, leave your own…yes I know that’s very brave of me..but I can take it, I really can..er..mmmm…

We plan to be back kickin it live on stage very soon but in the meantime for those of you who just can’t wait, you can see a smaller version of RyeZ performing an acoustic set at various quality acoustic nights across London.

See Gig list for forthcoming dates June & July
